You’re hesitating between Spotify and Deezer, but you’re not sure which one to choose? Well, I can already tell you that you won’t be disappointed with either of them, as they’re among the best apps for listening to music!
On paper, the two applications look very similar: same type of subscription, huge catalogue, ad-free listening… it’s hard to tell the difference at first glance.
But if you’re here, it’s precisely because you want to understand what makes them different. So here’s a simple comparison between Spotify and Deezer to help you choose the application best suited to your needs and budget.

Spotify vs Deezer: the key differences
Deezer and Spotify have been available in France for almost 20 years, which goes to show that they have succeeded in developing their ecosystem.
Spotify has a wider international reach with more than 250 million paying users, and almost three times as many including free users. But this is only slightly outweighed by the French platform Deezer, which offers more choice of tracks and has just as many features and positive feedback.
- It could be said that Spotify’s ecosystem is a little more focused on social features, with Spotify Jam and Spotify Connect for controlling playback from all available devices and with friends.
- Deezer offers an efficient algorithm with its Flow feature, so you can discover new sounds as you like.
- There are slightly more promotional offers with mobile operators and Deezer.

Who offers the best free version, Spotify or Deezer?
Both applications can be used free of charge, with the same catalogue. However, the experience is less pleasant than with a premium version, not least because of the adverts on both Deezer and Spotify.
Some features are also reserved for paying subscribers: Jam on Spotify for listening to music in a group, queue management, offline listening and greater freedom of playback.
The restrictions are a little greater on Deezer because the playback mode is random and zapping of tracks is limited (5 zaps), which is not the case on Spotify!
👉 Despite everything, these free versions are still very useful for testing the interface, discovering the features and seeing which application suits you best before paying.
Connectivity and compatibility
On this point, both platforms are solid. Spotify has a slight advantage in that it offers more compatible devices, such as the Apple Watch, Garmin, Wear OS, Fitbit and Samsung Galaxy Watch, while Deezer offers only the first 3.
Overall, you can listen to your music on most everyday devices thanks to the Bluetooth and WiFi connection, which makes it very easy to change tracks and resume playback from one device to another.
- mobile and tablet application (iPhone / Android)
- browser-basedweb reader
- desktop application (Windows / Mac)
- connected watches
- connected speakers
- smart TV
- in-car systems
- Game consoles (Xbox, PlayStation)
Here are the official links for a detailed list of devices compatible with the integrated Deezer or Spotify Connect applications.
Price comparison between Spotify and Deezer
| Plans | Spotify | Deezer |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | 12.14/month | 11.99/month |
| Duo | 17.20/month | 15.99/month |
| Family | 21.24/month | 19.99/month |
| Student | 7.07/month | 5.99/month |
The two platforms have fairly similar prices, although Deezer is still slightly cheaper on most subscription plans: individual, student, duo or family (6 seats).
Given the small differences in price, I’d advise you to choose the one you like best. And if you’re looking for the cheapest audio streaming platform, I’ve got a great deal for you just below ⤵️
What discounts are available on Spotify or Deezer?
If we’re talking about the discounts offered by the brand, they’re pretty much the same on both Spotify and Deezer, where you generally get 1 to 2 months free for every subscription.
If we’re talking about discounts from partners, such as mobile operators, then the advantage goes to Deezer, which has several partnerships with Orange, SFR and Bouygues. If you’re already a customer of one of these operators, be sure to check the current offer 🙂
Take a look at the offers currently available:
- SFR : Deezer Premium subscription at €1/month for 4 months, with no commitment.
- Orange : Deezer Premium subscription for €1/month for 3 months or Deezer Premium subscription for 18-26 year olds for €5.99/month with no commitment.
- Bouygues : 2 months free (similar to the current Deezer offer)
How can I pay less for Spotify or Deezer?
The best way to save, and one that beats all the others, is to use GamsGo, a subscription-sharing platform that gives you access to official, but much cheaper, accounts.

- The cheapest subscriptions on the market
- 100+ platforms including Netflix, Spotify, Adobe, Disney+, YouTube Premium, etc.
- Immediate access to accounts after purchase
- 24-hour customer service
👉 You can get an extra 3% to 5% off at checkout with my budgenie promo code.

For my part, I’ve had a personal Spotify Premium subscription on GamsGo for over 2 years! Everything works very well and I’ve already saved over €300 thanks to it. So it’s much better than a student subscription or a temporary promotion.
Audio quality on Spotify or Deezer
In terms of sound quality, both platforms offer the same very good quality, with bit rates of up to 320 kbps. They are therefore on a par for traditional listening with comparable sound quality.
Spotify
- Free version: up to 320Kbits/s
- Spatial audio (Premium) : Lossless up to 24 bits/44.1 kHz
Deezer
- Free version: up to 320Kbits/s
- Spatial audio (Premium): HiFi (FLAC) up to 16 bit/44.1 kHz
In terms of spatial audio options, Spotify offers its Lossless option on sounds that support it. The equivalent at Deezer is its HiFi option, which delivers listening quality “as if you were in a recording studio”.
To take advantage of these options, you still need a very good internet connection and a listening device of sufficient quality to hear the difference 😉
Sound and podcast catalogues
Deezer boasts more than 120 million tracks, compared with more than 100 million for Spotify. On paper, then, Deezer has the advantage. But in reality, the difference is barely noticeable: the two platforms largely cover the best-known artists, new releases and playlists of the moment.
In terms of podcasts, Spotify has a more extensive section with a ranking of the most listened-to podcasts.
On Deezer, I like the ranking by duration, which is useful for choosing a podcast suited to the time you have available.

Comparison of Spotify and Deezer mobile applications
Spotify and Deezer offer two great mobile applications that are fluid and easy to use. You can listen to your music, search for new tracks, manage your favourites and switch from one device to another with ease. So it’s a question of taste, and colour!

The best thing to do is to try the 2 before choosing, or check out the photos on the Play Store or App Store!
User reviews
Overall, Spotify and Deezer are receiving very good reviews, and here are the ratings that reflect their popularity on App Store and Google Play.
Spotify
4.7★ out of 4.4 m reviews
4.4★ out of 35 m reviews

Deezer
4.7★ on 0.5 m notice
4.6★ out of 3.6 m reviews

The ratings are very good, a little higher for Deezer, but that’s mainly because there are 10x more users on Spotify 😉
👉 So, are you joining the Deezer team or the Spotify team?
There are also other very popular platforms like Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, Qobuz and YouTube!
