Duolingo is an app that enables you to learn over 40 languages quickly and, above all, enjoyably, thanks to its fun interface and interactive exercises.
For an app whose free version is already very comprehensive, the cost of a Duolingo subscription can be a bit of a put-off! So I’ve compared various ways to pay less for Duolingo: cashback schemes, partner offers, account sharing, VPNs, and so on.
Key points at a glance:
- Official price of Super Duolingo: €25.99 per month for the no-commitment monthly subscription and €11.49 per month for a 12-month commitment.
- The cheapest and easiest way to get Duolingo at a low price is to take out a subscription via GamsGo for €2.83 a month (approx. €34 a year)!
- There are other methods, such as account sharing, but these require bringing together several trustworthy people and managing the payments.

How much will Duolingo cost in 2026?
| Package | Monthly fee | Annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| Duolingo Super (no commitment) | €25.99 | €311.88 |
| Duolingo Super (12-month contract) | €11.49 | €137.99 |
| Duolingo Family (12-month subscription) | €12.25 | €146.99 |
| Duolingo Lite with adverts (12-month subscription) | €3.49 | €41.99 |
A Duolingo Super subscription now costs €25.99 a month for the no-commitment option. That’s absolutely massive, and the price has risen significantly over the last few years (previously €13.99, then €21.49).
The annual subscription costs 56% less than the monthly one. It is this difference that Duolingo often presents as a ‘discount.’
- Duolingo Lite is a newer subscription service that offers an enhanced experience with twice as much energy each day (though not unlimited), and it also includes adverts, which explains its relatively low price of €3.49 per month.
- Duolingo Max was the premium subscription with AI features. This plan is no longer available to new subscribers, and its features appear to be gradually being moved over to Super.
You can try the Duolingo Super version for free for several weeks to discover its benefits. At certain times of the year, such as around the festive season or the start of the new school year, there are sometimes special offers that are even more attractive.
What are the benefits of the Super Duolingo subscription?

Duolingo Super is the premium version that unlocks the full potential of what Duolingo has to offer:
- No adverts, so you won’t be interrupted during your learning sessions and can stay as focused as possible
- Unlimited access to challenges without having to pay with gems, to enhance learning by setting yourself challenges
- Unlimited energy to start again as many times as necessary, regardless of any mistakes
- Reviewing mistakes & identifying key skills to create a tailored training program focused on one’s areas for improvement
- To be able to download the lessons so you can use them offline
- Video calls with Duolingo characters: this AI feature is being rolled out gradually in Super
Since 2025, Duolingo has replaced hearts with an energy system. Every exercise uses up energy, even when you get the answer right. When your energy gauge is empty, you have three options: wait for it to recharge, watch an advert, or spend gems.

GamsGo to get Super Duolingo for €2.83/month (my solution)
If you’re looking for both the best and simplest way to get a genuine Duolingo account for less than €3 a month, let me introduce you to GamsGo, a platform that sells discounted digital subscriptions.
With Duolingo, GamsGo offers two subscription plans that allow you to keep your own Duolingo account – and therefore your progress and preferences – with prices starting at just €2.83 a month, or just €34 a year!
I’ve been using it for over three years, mainly to pay less for my Netflix, Spotify and ChatGPT subscriptions, and more recently for Duolingo.

- The cheapest subscriptions on the market
- 100+ platforms including Netflix, Spotify, Adobe, Disney+, YouTube Premium, etc.
- Immediate access to accounts after purchase
- 24-hour customer service

Share a Family Plan
Another way to reduce the cost is to share a Duolingo Family subscription with other users. Instead of paying the full price on your own, you can opt for a plan that covers up to six accounts – yours and five guests. Everyone keeps their own account and progress.

The price per person for a Duolingo Family subscription depends on the number of members: from €6.13 per month per person for two or more users, down to €2.04 per month at the cheapest, with six users using the service at the same time!
The downside of this method is the organization involved:
- The account manager must pay the €146.99 up front and then arrange payment with the other users so that they can each get their share back.
- If anyone pulls out, everyone ends up paying more, so we’ll need to adjust everyone’s bank transfers – which means it all needs to be well organised!
👉 To make it easier to manage sharing with other users, there are platforms such as Sharesub (the solution shown just below)!
Sharesub and Spliiit connect individuals who share their own Family plan. The account holder offers their spare slots, you book one, and the platform handles the monthly payments. Prices are around €3 a month on both platforms.
The downside is that you’re at the mercy of the group’s owner; if they don’t renew their subscription or leave the platform, you’ll have to find a place elsewhere.
👉 If you already have a Family plan with unused places, you can also offer them on these platforms to get a refund on part of your subscription.

Partner offers
Duolingo does not directly offer an official student discount. However, some of its partners do offer several months’ free access to Super. Here are two examples:
- Zalando Plus: 2 to 4 months free. Zalando’s loyalty program offers Super Duolingo to its members depending on their status: 2 months at the first level, up to 4 months at higher levels (the offer is valid until August 2028).
- UNiDAYS: 2 months free for students. By creating a UNiDAYS account using your student email address, you can get 2 months free on Duolingo.
In both cases, these are free trials, so you’ll need to provide payment details, and the subscription you’ve chosen will start automatically once the trial ends.
Cashback or gift cards
Among the other ways to pay less for Duolingo, cashback can save you a few euros, or even around ten euros.
This method works if you take out a subscription directly on the official Duolingo website.

In practical terms, you simply buy a Duolingo voucher for the value of the subscription and you’ll receive a cashback amount credited to your account (usually between 6 and 9%). You can then use this voucher on Duolingo to pay for a subscription.
👉 I’d recommend using the Widilo cashback platform if you’re interested – it offers very good cashback rates and you can earn €5 when you open an account.
Use a VPN
Getting Duolingo at a lower price by using a VPN involves virtually changing your location to access more favourable prices offered in other countries, such as Turkey or Argentina, for example.

This is a solution that comes up very often as a way of getting discounted rates on subscriptions, but I wouldn’t recommend it for three reasons:
- Payment on Duolingo often requires a bank card issued in the selected country.
- The risks of having your account blocked for circumventing regional pricing.
- The VPN is a paid service, so its cost is added to the subscription fee.
👉 When you factor in the risk, the cost of a VPN and the complexity involved, the savings aren’t worth it compared to sharing a subscription.
How does the Duolingo subscription work on GamsGo?
Top-up
With this first option, GamsGo activates Super directly on your Duolingo account. This means you’re the sole user – there’s no group to join – and you keep your progress, your streak and your settings.
- Once you have made your payment on GamGo, you will be asked to provide your Duolingo account login details.
- GamsGo will then top up your account (usually within 48 hours) and notify you once the Super plan has been successfully activated.
- You can then change your Duolingo password as soon as your account has been activated.
This is the cheapest option: €2.83 per month, or around €34 for a 12-month subscription. This is around 75 per cent less than the official annual subscription and 89 per cent less than the monthly subscription.
The Family Plan
If you’re not comfortable with giving access to your account, you can join a Super Family group managed by GamsGo. It costs €3.15 per month, which is around 73 per cent less than the official annual subscription.
With this solution, all you need to do is enter your email address and your Duolingo username directly via the ‘Subscription’ tab in GamsGo to receive the invitation link to the Duolingo Super group.

My tip for paying less for Duolingo
You might be tempted to switch to the Duolingo Lite plan, but this still includes adverts and limits your energy. The cheapest option therefore depends mainly on how well you can organize yourself:
- If you can get 4 or 5 people together and pay up front, your own Family Plan is a good option, although it does involve a bit of organization.
- Alternatively, GamsGo is the easiest way to keep your monthly cost under €3 without relying on anyone else (no risk of someone dropping out).
You can opt for the top-up option if you’re happy to share your login details whilst the account is being activated, or choose the Family plan if you’d prefer to provide only your email address and username.
The only risk is that you might temporarily revert to the free version if there’s a problem, but your progress is safe as it’s stored on your personal account!

I’ve been using GamsGo for over three years for my Netflix, Spotify and ChatGPT subscriptions; their customer service is available round the clock if I have any questions, which is brilliant.
👉 So, for me, GamsGo is the best way to get Duolingo more cheaply and securely, whilst saving over 75% compared to the official prices.
